Since its formation by a small, determined group of hill and mountain lovers in 1955 the Gloucestershire Mountaineering Club (GMC) has gone from strength to strength and now has a membership of over 120 mountaineers, climbers, walkers, ski tourers, mountain bikers and fell runners, its own hut in Snowdonia and a very active meets list. In addition to the monthly pub meet (now at The Warehouse Climbing Centre, Parliament Street Gloucester) on the first Tuesday of every month, trips are organised to areas such as North Wales, the Lake District, Cornwall, the Peak District and Scotland. Also during the winter months the climbers in the club hone their skill on Tuesday evenings at the The Warehouse climbing centre in Gloucester.
Conveniently situated on the outskirts of Deiniolen, approximately 3 miles from Llanberis, our un-wardened hostel style accommodation offers hot showers, bunk rooms, a drying room, storage heaters and full kitchen facilities. It has recently been extensively improved and at our re-opening party we sat 33 people to tables in the large lounge/dining area. Any group wanting low cost accommodation from which to explore the mountains of Snowdonia are welcome to make a booking.
The GMC welcomes new members interested in any aspect of mountaineering.
To meet us informally come along to one of our pub meets held at the Warehouse Climbing Centre bar on the first Tuesday of each month at 9pm. Alternatively, you may find some of us at the Warehouse Climbing Wall, Parliament Street, Gloucester or bouldering at either Haresfield Beacon or Cleeve Hill on Summer evenings.
The rock climbers in the club meet most Tuesday evenings from 7pm onwards at The Warehouse Climbing Centre in Gloucester. Please feel free to come along and have a chat.
